George F. Thorp Engineering Scholarship sponsored by Christian
and Nisie Teeter. Born to a cotton farming family, George was
fascinated with airplanes from a young age. Due to the prohibitive
expense of attending a four year college, he graduated from Cal
Aero Technical Institute in Glendale, California with a certificate
in Aeronautical Engineering and went to work at Northrop Aircraft
Company in Hawthorne, California thus beginning a forty plus
year career at companies such as Douglas, North American, Aero
Commander, Aerostar and Israel Aircraft Industries on many
projects (F-89; DC-6, 7, 8 & 9; B-70; Jet Commander; Commodore
Jet, Arava and the Aerostar series of light twin engine aircraft). "I
don't believe I could have been content at any other task than
engineering."
